How to Make 2019 Your Best Year Yet
A few days in and we here at Upsize are hoping that you’re keeping your resolutions. With the new year ahead of us, good times and bad await. It will always be up to us on how we will handle things, people, situations that will be thrown our way.
Here are a few reminders we are sharing with Upsize readers as we meet 2019 with a face full of smiles and a heart filled with hope.
1. Less plans. Less expectations.
The start of the year is the best time for your freshly unwrapped planners. These are the days when you still have the enthusiasm (and the time) to detail what you want to happen to your day or your week.
Here’s an unpopular suggestion: Try an unplanned year. Try a year when you don’t have to have every destination, every meet-up, and every step of your life planned.

It’s like what John Lennon once said, “Life happens when you’re too busy making plans.”
2. Focus on the quality of relationships.
It has become a given that the new year comes with a clean slate. This is the time of the year that we have a free pass on figuring out which relationship is still healthy and which ones bring only pain.

3. Discover places and culture.
You may not have this year all planned out with every flight booked, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t go on an adventure. There is something beautiful and exciting in spontaneity.

4. Take a look back at childhood dreams and almost-forgotten goals.
How many years have you been working as a corporate slave? How many years have you been immersed in the workforce, toiling day in and day out for a job you sometimes hate?

This year, let nostalgia take the spotlight as you look back on what you wanted when you were a kid. Whether it’s to become a pianist or a martial artist, dreams will always be good for the soul. Take a workshop, a class, or practice on your own time. You may just find out that you have what it takes to achieve those dreams after all.
5. Leap out of social media.
It is an accepted fact that social media is a time suck. Spending hours of your day browsing through your feed while feeling bad that you’re not living the carefully-curated lives of your friends is something you have the option of not doing this year.

6. Veer away from the comfort zone.
Comfort zones are cozy and warm, so why do we have to veer away from the comfortable? This famous quote from American author Neale Donald Walsch put it best: “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”

7. Let go of the burdens from 2018.
Fresh starts are best felt at this time of the year. Unsurprisingly new year resolutions come in handy. To experience your best year yet, the best advice is to let go of the people, the things, and situations that were weighing you down last year. Make 2019 your best year through hard work, positive thinking, and a dose of adventures and spontaneity.
