Why We've GOT All The Love for Lyanna Mormont

Avid fans await with bated breath as the current most-watched TV show in the world opened its seventh season. George RR Martin’s Game of Thrones will once again be part of weekly conversations as we enter the fascinating realm of the Seven Kingdoms.

We here at Upsize, however, are more interested on the new fan favourite: Lyanna Mormont (Bella Ramsey). With the advent of the new season, she has strengthened her position as the face of feminism in the series.

On the first episode of season 7, Dragonstone, the North is preparing for battle against the White Walkers with Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) declared the King of the North.

A true feminism ally, Jon said that all Northerners, men and women, ages 10-60 will work to help defeat the White Walkers.

Then came the voice of naysayers.

Bear Island’s fierce little leader Lyanna Mormont, however, will not let men push her aside. With her stern and clear voice, she said the words that made us cheer for her.

“I don’t plan on knitting by the fire while the men fight for me.” That line speaks of stereotypes, for men and women both, and we applaud Lyanna for voicing it out.

She then continue to say, “I might be small, Lord Glover, and I might be a girl, but I am every bit as much a Northerner as you.”

When Lord Glover was about to interrupt, the gutsy leader has this to say: "And I don't need your permission to defend the North. We will begin training every man, woman, boy and girl on Bear Island.”

Cue cheers and applause.

Season 7 is looking up and the first episode gave the feminists a kickass character to watch out for.
