Good Eats for Good Luck this Chinese New Year
As the days to the Lunar New Year comes closer lots of hotels, restaurants and tourist destinations bring out the lucky decorations, filling the space with auspicious vibes. From red lanterns, feng shui cures and even round fruits, the celebration of the Chinese New Year has become a tradition not only for Chinese families but for Filipino ones as well.
If you’re looking for a place where to celebrate this auspicious time of the year, we give you five our favorites:
Jasmine Restaurant, New World Hotel, Makati
Enjoy a hearty feast with your family and closest friends at Jasmine Restaurant located in New World Hotel. Their sumptuous and specially designed set menu and a la carte dishes were created by the revered Executive Chinese Chef Wong Kam On. The dishes are said to be bring abundant luck, love and prosperity to those who will partake of the spread.
Set menus for groups of 10 include dishes such as Roasted Duck with Plum Sauce and Salmon Yu Sheng. A la carte includes Braised Dried Oyster with Sea Moss and Black Mushrooms and Suckling Pig. Whether you choose the set menu or a la carte dishes, you will be treated to the ceremonial Yu Sheng Salad toss that is said to bring an individual luck and prosperity.
Set menus are priced at Php21,880 or Php23,880. It will be available from January 22 to 31.
Shang Palace, Makati Shangri-la
Ring in the New Year with a Feast for Prosperity at Shang Palace in Makati Shangri-la. Lunch and dinner set menus are categorized into four: Gold, Platinum, Jade and Diamond. Below is a rundown of a few of the dishes for each category:
GOLD: Steamed Lapu-Lapu “Hong Kong” Style in light soya sauce, Fortune Chicken and Steamed Tiger Prawns with Minced Garlic
PLATINUM: Braised Pork Belly, “Tung Po” style with Chinese buns, and Deep Fried Lapu-Lapu with Thai Chili Mango Sauce
JADE: Braised Sliced Abalone with Black Mushrooms and Dried Fish Maw, Wok-Fried Asparagus and Scallops with premium XO Sauce and Steamed Green Garoupa in “Hong Kong” style
DIAMOND: Barbequed whole suckling pig, Baked Lobster with Ginger Scallions and Buddha Jumps over the Wall
Prices are per person and vary per category. The Feast for Prosperity is available from January 27 -28.
