Beauty Need Not Be Expensive: Our Top 5 Fave Drugstore Foundations

Confession: I prefer high-end foundations and face bases to drugstore ones. But okay, there are some exceptions.

For me, foundation is something you should not scrimp one because your face is the canvas for the rest of your makeup. However, some brands have really stepped up their game.

Here are drugstore face bases that we love:

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation

Honestly, this isn't just a favorite drugstore foundation. It's right up there with our top three. It give a soft satin finish that isn't too matte or dewy. The coverage is light to medium and buildable.

There is no shimmer or any glitter at all. One thing we love about Healthy Mix is that you can mix it with other face bases. Strictly speaking though, it isn't a drugstore item because it's a bit pricey.

Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation

Unpopular opinion: I prefer Dream Velvet over Maybelline's Fit Me line. From the packaging to the finish, I love this. A warning though, if you have dry skin you have to moisturize before applying this foundation or you'll get a patchy finish.

It gives medium coverage. I didn't have to use concealer on my undereyes and blemishes but I had to apply a finishing powder. Longevity is good at around 4-6 hours.

BYS Matte Liquid Foundation

For the price (just over Php600), you get a decent liquid face base that will get you through a working day or even a party. It's not oily and it doesn't turn yellow.

The coverage is medium and set with translucent powder, longevity is at around 4-6 hours.

San San Two-Way Cake Powder Foundation

My friend uses only this as a face base. She applies it with a wet sponge for full coverage. If you want it sheer, use a brush to apply it dry.

This powder foundation has good coverage except that you'd have to retouch after 2-3 hours.

Flormar Mat Touch Foundation

Said to be a dupe for Kat Von D's Lock-It Tattoo Foundation, this does not move on your face unless you decide to take it off.

I once used it on a day when I had to work outdoors and it stayed on for about eight hours. This is best applied with a beautyblender and set with translucent powder.
