What Makes Exes Baggage the Kind of Movie You Shouldn’t Miss

On its first day, Exes Baggage raked more than P21 million. This was doubled on its second day, and just last Friday, it already has more than P71 million.

Banking on how much the 90s kids love the movies and TV shows of their decade, director Dan Villegas managed to give us a movie that is definitely a must-watch. If you’re still on the fence whether you should watch this movie, we have five reasons why we fell in love with Nix and Pia.

1. The movie has a strong dialogue.

After watching the trailer a few months ago, I was a little wary about this movie since it seemed that there would be a lot of hugot lines. Good thing that a little doubt did not stop me. It turned out the dialogue is one of the strengths of the movie. Mundane occurrences told through beautiful conversations have become windows to the relationship of the couple.

With lines like, “Love overpowers pain,” Exes Baggage is generous in sharing love lessons and shattering expectations.

2. It showcased the glory of OPM.

There is this one beautiful scene in the film where Nix was singing Ben&Ben’s Maybe the Night that, I believe, will remain with you long after the movie has ended. More than the speaking lines, the movie’s soundtrack helped narrate the story of Nix and Pia.

Believe me when I say that Ebe Dancel’s Dapit Hapon is as poetic as it is painfully beautiful. Highlighting the power of OPM in making us feel things, Exes Baggage is a salute to how beautiful our own music is.

3. It gave us beautiful cinematography.

With works like English Only, Please, Changing Partners, and The Breakup Playlist, it cannot be disputed that Dan Villegas has already made a name for himself in the industry. Exes Baggage only adds to his solid reputation as an excellent rom-com director.

For a movie set in bars, condo, and rundown apartment, Villegas found a way on how to tell the story in colors and shots that magically showcase heartbreak and hope.

4. The #CarGel feels is real.

For a couple who has been separated for a while, Angelica Panganiban and Carlo Aquino’s chemistry sizzles. Aquino’s boyish charm and Panganiban’s charisma made this movie nothing short of a dream throwback for all kids who grow up on Ang TV, G-mik, and Berks. Nostalgia is probably one of the most powerful marketing assets of any product, and #CarGel has this in spades.

5. This is Carlo Aquino at his finest.

There is no denying that Carlo Aquino is one of the country’s best actors. He has proven excellence in his craft one movie after another. In this film, Aquino will marvel you with his screen presence as he makes you giddy, laugh, and cry scene after scene.
