Disney Bares Exciting Cast for the Live Action Remake of Aladdin
We all loved the story of "Aladdin and the King of Thieves." We also loved the 1992 Disney animation "Aladdin," where our own Lea Salonga was Jasmine's singing voice.
In October 2016, it was reported that Disney was developing a live action remake of "Aladdin" with Guy Ritchie in talks to direct the film.
Film production was supposed to begin in July 2017, but it has been delayed to August due to difficulties in finding suitable actors to play the leads, Aladdin and Jasmine, as the actors are required to sing, dance and act.
The official cast of the live-action remake of "Aladdin" was finally announced at Disney's D-23 Expo.
Mena Massoud will play Aladdin, Naomi Scott was cast as Jasmine and Will Smith will star as the Genie.
And just recently, Disney announced that it found the actor to play Jafar, one of the most popular Disney villains in history.
Marwan Kenzari, who has previously starred in "The Mummy," and "The Promise," will play Jafar, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Alan Menken, who composed the music for the original film, will also be returning for the live action remake.
