Let's Not Stop Talking About Dr. Charlie Jandic
By now, we expect that you've already heard about that crazy story about the woman whose arm broke off at the MRT in an accident. But if you haven't yet, basically last Tuesday, the Philippine internet broke because of the wild incident at the MRT Station in Ayala where Angeline Fernando's arm was literally severed.
ABS-CBN News reports that the people heard something that sounded like someone got hit by a train. And so it was.
Dr. Charlie Jandic, a medical intern at the Chinese General Hospital, was closest in proximity to Angeline cause she initially noticed how the latter was going against the flow of the people. Charlie was also the first one to see what happened to Angeline's arm.
Now, mind you, I can stomach gore films and love Stephen King stories but I cannot even dare imagine the situation here because it's real life! Personally, and perhaps like the other people present during that circumstance, I would've panicked. But not Dr. Charlie.
She got to work and took action immediately without hesitation. Amazingly making a tourniquet out of another girl's cardigan and a police's belt. She was amazingly thinking on her toes. She even went out of her way to go with Angeline to the hospital.
Charlie has become an inspiration and the news can't seem to stop talking about her yet and we want that.
Yes, let's keep talking about women ready to help others in times of need. Let's keep talking about strong women who wouldn't let any circumstance startle them. Let's keep talking about how educated women who pursue their goals are important to society. Let's keep talking about care and compassion among women instead of hate.
So let's keep talking about Dr. Charlie Jandic and her heroic deed. In spite of her always reiterating how she only did the right thing in every channel she gets interviewed on, she did the right thing and her work deserves the attention. She deserves to be admired by the youth and an aspiration of young Filipinas.
