White Island, Camiguin
If you’re opting for a more relaxed and less noisy holiday break, you might want to try out White Island located in the province of Camiguin. A stretch of white, powdery sandbar in the middle of clear blue waters is tempting enough to make you leave the city lights and bask under the sun. The famous sandbar is a good ten minute boat ride from the nearby resorts. There are a lot of places to stay at so you don’t have to worry about not having accommodation.
Offering welcoming rooms and cool amenities like jet skiing and scuba diving, Paras Beach Resort is one of the most famous accommodations in the area. You can also take your cue from bloggers The Lost Kids during their trip to Camiguin for activities to do.
Salagdoong Beach, Maria, Siquijor
We’re all aware on the folklore surrounding Siquijor. What will surprise you however, is the magical beauty of the province. Salagdoong Beach is one testament to the hidden wonders that our country has. It’s one of the more popular beaches in the town of Maria because of its turquoise, clear waters.
Salagdoong Beach is not just famous for its aquamarine waters. It’s also well-known for its cliff-diving. Lots of tourists never pass up a chance without giving this fun activity. There are two diving platforms on the huge rock formation, 20 and 35 feet each in height, for you to choose from. Check out Lakad Pilipinas’ Salagdoong adventure.
Guisi Beach, Guimaras
There’s more to Guimaras than just their sweet mangoes. It is also home to some of the most beautiful white beaches and rock formations. One of the most popular, yet also most secluded beaches in the province is Guisi Beach. While there are already quite a few resorts in the area, you will be surprised at the peacefulness of the place. If you’re lucky, you might even have the whole beach to yourself.
A trip to Guisi Beach isn’t complete without a trek to the Guisi Lighthouse and Ruins. It provides an awesome view of the beach. Guimaras is an hour and a half away from Iloilo city. Take the ferry to Jordan Wharf from Ortiz in Iloilo City proper. The Tourism office is conveniently located near the wharf to assist you with your tour.
Kaputian Beach, Samal Island
Not exactly in the mood to party with everyone else this holiday season? Then Kaputian Beach is your best bet if you want to make use of the time for a much needed break. Samal Island is already known for its amazing expanse of white sand beaches, but if you’re looking for a little bit more quiet than usual, Kaputian Beach is where you should go. It’s another 40-50 minute boat ride from the mainland, but the extra travel time is well-worth it when you are greeted by the clear, cool waters and the tranquility of the area.
Since the beach park is owned by the government, you can expect affordable entrance fees to Kaputian Beach. To reach the location, go to Sta. Ana Wharf where there are several passenger boats that are available. A ticket costs around P80 that will take you directly to Kaputian Wharf.
Calaguas Island, Camarines Norte
The powdery white sand of Calaguas can rival that of Boracay’s. People who have been to there have even been heard to say that sand at Calaguas is better. The waters are clear and turquoise blue in color it feels like paradise when you’re in the island. The trip may be a bit long with an 8-hour bus ride to Daet then another 2-hour boat ride to the island, but the travel is all well worth it when you set foot on the island.
One of the great things about Calaguas is that it’s accessible by land, or air depending on your preference or budget. There are no stores on the island so best to purchase your food at the wet market in Paracale before taking the boat to the island. Cottages are available for around P500 or you can put up a tent. But if you’re looking for a more comfortable place to rest, try the Waling-Waling Eco Resort nearby.
