‘GVBOYS: Pangmalakasang Good Vibes’ Is Like A 1990s Sitcom But Better

When times are tough, people turn to things that make them laughter. It’s been said that laughter is the best medicine and it’s true.

It is in this spirit that Puregold Channel was created. Keeping people of all ages entertained is the heart and soul of Puregold Channel on Facebook and YouTube.

Puregold Channel was conceptualized as a means to provide quality entertainment to millions of Filipino families staying at home because of the pandemic. "SHOPPERTAINMENT," as pioneered by Puregold, combined grocery shopping with entertainment—two things that Filipinos are passionate about—across Puregold's millions of followers on its social media platforms.

"GVBOYS: Pangmalakasang Good Vibes" is Puregold Channel’s first digital series and the newest addition to the exciting roster of shows.

Patterned after the Filipino sitcoms of the 1990s, veteran director Don Cuaresma said "GVBOYS: Pangmalakasang Good Vibes" was actually the idea of Puregold Price Club Inc. President Vincent Co who wanted something fun and lighthearted for Puregold Channel’s new offering, which will premiere on July 10.

The show stars three of today's latest hottest and most exciting leading men—Jerome Ponce, Nikko Natividad and Dave Bornea—and they will be joined by the talented, feisty and funny Wilma Doesn't, Elsa Droga and Ms. Carmi Martin.

"GVBOYS: Pangmalakasang Good Vibes" will have 8 episode drops and 2 special episodes. The digital series can be streamed online for free on Puregold Channel's Facebook and YouTube pages starting July 10.

“The 1990s were the golden years of sitcoms on Philippine TV. He (Vincent Co) wanted to show millennials what entertained us in the 1990s,”said Cuaresma.

“GVBOYS: Pangmalakasang Good Vibes" is a coming- of-age story of three housemates. Each episode highlights relatable adventures, antics and life experiences.

Carmi Martin plays the role of Aling Pearly, their half-Filipino half-Korean landlady. Martin was a regular in the long-running sitcom “Chicks to Chicks,” which started in the 1970s.

What makes the show unique, said Cuaresma is that it was able to bring together stars from different network, something that’s not possible with a TV show. Ponce and Natividad are from ABS-CBN while Bornea is a GMA Network star.

“Because we were in a locked-in taping, the cast was able to bond with each other. We shared meals and spent time together so we were able to discuss what needed to be done for the scenes to be shot,” said Cuaresma.

Cuaresma made Ponce, Natividad and Bornea take screen tests with each other to see if they had chemistry,

“Magaan, masaya at okay ang energy (It was fun and the energy was okay),” said Bornea of the locked-in taping.

Ponce said this was his first time to do a comedy and it was different but fun.

Natividad, of all the stars, understands the power of comedy and how it can make people feel better. He admitted having panic attacks in quarantine after being scammed. He is just happy to be working again and making people laugh.

Creative head Noel Nuguit said “GVBOYS: Pangmalakasang Good Vibes" is “tamang kalokohan na may puso (this is a comedy with a heart).”

"Puregold Channel is dedicated to our loyal customers. This is our way of rewarding and staying in touch with them outside the stores. This is Puregold’s thrust, to strengthen the future of retail throughstrong engagement and digital footprint," said Puregold Price Club Inc. President Vincent Co.

Since the launch of Puregold Channel late last year, the supermarket giant has come up with engaging content for people of all ages. Among the shows the channel has put up are a game show "Playtime Panalo" with Luis Manzano, a talk show "Sabado Bago Live" co-hosted by Boy Abunda and Gretchen Ho, a stand-up comedy show “The Ha Ha Hour” hosted by Alex Calleja and aMobile Legends: Bang Bang gaming tournament “Puregold Esports Live”.
